Yes, you must always have an ID card, residence permit or passport with you when you go to a gig. A driving licence alone is not enough, because the client cannot determine from this whether you are actually allowed to work. If you do not have a (valid) proof of identity with you, the client is allowed to send you home. We obviously want to avoid this, because it is annoying for both you and the client.
What do I do if I am sent home? If you are sent home because you do not have the right documents with you, this has consequences. You cannot perform the gig, which means you miss out on income. Moreover, you cannot claim any amount in this case. Additionally, you will receive an (extra) no-show which ensures you have a less attractive profile and you run the risk of a temporary block. Always check the travel time, dress code and whether your ID is in your bag before you go to the gig!
The client can use your ID to check whether you are indeed the person they chose for the gig. In addition, the client can also use your ID card (passport or residence permit) to verify whether you are allowed to work. This is important to confirm both your identity and your work status, preventing misunderstandings and potential problems.
